Caplin & Massiah: ‘Shaped Like You’

Caplin & Massiah are set to captivate with their new single, Shaped Like You, available now. This infectious track kicks off with dancehall-inspired rhythms that are sure to get you moving, but the story behind the song is a poignant one: heartbreak.

The inspiration for Shaped Like You comes from a deeply personal place. Not long ago, Zeeteah was facing a challenging time with her daughter, which led to the creation of Baby Girl—a reggae ballad about heartbreak. The song's powerful chorus, “Everybody sees this hole in my heart, and everybody knows it’s shaped like you,” resonated with the duo, and they decided to reimagine it. What began as a reflection of Zeeteah's pain over her daughter evolved into a dancehall-pop anthem about the end of a romantic relationship. The transition from sorrowful ballad to upbeat dance track showcases Caplin & Massiah’s impressive ability to take a deeply emotional theme and turn it into something lively and infectious.

Known for their genre-defying sound, Caplin & Massiah blend dancehall, blues, soul, and pop in a way that’s both innovative and rooted in musical tradition. With Shaped Like You, they continue to push the boundaries of creativity, seamlessly merging contemporary energy with timeless influences. Zeeteah Massiah, whose vocal legacy includes collaborations with musical legends like Tom Jones, Phil Collins, and Sting, brings a soulful depth to the track, while Paul Caplin's extensive career as a producer and songwriter—shaped by his success with the groundbreaking 80s trio Haysi Fantayzee—adds a dynamic spark to the duo’s distinctive sound.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists, from the smooth elegance of Ella Fitzgerald to the experimental style of Billie Eilish, Caplin & Massiah create music that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. Their ability to evolve while staying true to their roots makes their work resonate with listeners of all ages.

Shaped Like You is the next exciting step in Caplin & Massiah’s musical journey, and serves as a precursor to their upcoming album, due in February 2025. Stream Shaped Like You now on all major platforms!
